Fall Less-Casual

Hi again,

As promised, here is the second part to my post! The same outfit, just a little more dressy!
Short booties are perfect for fall.
The simplest way to dress an outfit up? With heels of course!
The necklace is actually centered in this one.

Booties: Target, $24.99

Thanks for tuning in!

Sweater: Forever 21, see previous post
Jeggings: H&M, $19.95
Boots: Target, $27.99
Necklace: Forever 21, $2.99
Another post coming up with how to make this outfit more dressed up!

Easy Skate

Hi all!

Quick and short little post here. A very easy outfit, perfect for a cooler day in the summer!

The neon yellow is a great headturner, but the shorts make the outfit super casual.

Sweater: Forever 21, $8.99
Shorts: Bershka, Ukrainian store I don't remember the name of, $???

Sassy look not included
The vans add that extra touch of "hipster"/"skater". I could hop on a skateboard and no one would think I was out of place ;)

Thanks!

Citrus-Glazed Blueberry Scones

Hi again!

Last night I baked for the first time in quite a while! I wanted to share the recipe with you guys, just because it was so easy to make, and the results were delicious. I originally found the recipe in a Lake Superior magazine, but I adjusted it to fit my needs.

Don't they look scrumptious? They tasted great too.

Citrus-Glazed Blueberry Scones

Makes: around 12
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 15-20min
Glaze: 10-15min

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup (half stick) butter, cubed
  • 3/4 cup buttermilk or heavy cream
  • 1 egg
  • 1-2 cups (depending on preference) blueberries
  1. Preheat oven to 400 F. In large bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar. Cut in butter using a fork.
  2. In another bowl, mix egg and buttermilk. Add to flour mixture.
  3. Roll blueberries in a bit of extra flour and fold into batter.
  4. Drop large tablespoons on an ungreased cookie sheet or parchment paper. Bake 15-20min until golden.
  5. Cool before adding glaze.

Citrus Glaze

2 Tbsp. butter, melted
1-1 1/2 cups powdered sugar (to taste)
2 citrus fruits (lemons, clementines, oranges, etc) zested to taste and juiced

Mix all ingredients into bowl. Top scones with glaze, and let harden.

The glaze is completely optional. On the second day, I have found that the scones are not quite as crispy as when they were first out of the oven, but they still have a great taste. Let me know what you think!

Thanks for visiting,

Yuliya

Office Workaholic

Hola amigos!

Crazy how fast summer is flying by! Work has made this summer go so fast. Although I don't work at an office job, I like to imagine what I would wear if my dress code was a little more formal. (Not a city tshirt and athletic shorts). This blog post is dedicated to that! So here we are with some neutral basics:

Although I'd wear flats to be more comfortable and appropriate!
Love how the skirt has faux leather on it! Makes it a great transition piece from summer to fall!

Top: Naked Zebra, TJMaxx, $12.99
Skirt: Joe Benbasset, TJMaxx, $12.99
Heels: Lauren Conrad, Kohl's, $44.99
Satchel: Steve Madden, TJMaxx, $29.99
Watch: Burgi, Christmas Gift, $???

To add some polish to the look, I opted for a low pony. I made sure there was some volume at the crown, so it didn't look lackluster and bleh.

The look without the bag.
Hope you enjoyed it!

Messy Waves

Hello friends!

Sorry for not posting much, the weather has been awfully rainy, not great picture taking weather. However, I decided to provide some hair inspiration! Although I pretty much only have three hairstyles (down, athletic ponytail, athletic braid), this adds some variation because of the texture!
Messy Waves
I achieved this by showering in the morning and braiding my hair a little bit after. I left this overnight, and took it out the next day. For some people, it is possible to keep the braid in for about 10 min and it is wavy and gorgeous, while I really have to make sure my pin-straight hair holds the wave by keeping it in for over 24 hours. And even then, it is a hit or miss.

Here is a variation on the style, something that actuaaally takes 30 seconds (not those super complicated up-dos that, in real life, take about 30 minutes). Adds a little more polish to the look!
Nice and easy half up!
Great for a casual outfit, or to make it more fancy, add some jewelry, like dangly earrings!

The sunglasses also add a nice touch!
The look is tied together with neutral colored Sperry's. Comfy and cute!

AE Tank, TJMaxx, $3.99

Staple Accessories

Hello again!

I thought it'd be a fun idea and a good first actual post to post my accessory staples! Things that I wear a lot and go with almost anything.

First, my bag that I just recently got.

Steve Madden Crossbody, TJMaxx, $29.99

Lovely tassel.
The back might be my favorite part!

Secondly, my pink crossbody. I do not wear it that often because it is quite small, but I love it when I do.
Great detailing.
Mossimo Supply Co, Target, $19.99

Next, my aviators! I take them everywhere, and they add a nice touch to every outfit. Also my favorite bracelet. It's just the right amount of fabulous.
American Eagle, $11.99 (on sale)
Store in Ukraine, $5

Thanks for checking in!

Who, What, and Why

Hey guys!

This is my first ever blog post! How exciting! Just wanted to let you guys know what to expect, and a little bit about who's going to be running this blerg. First things first, my name is Yuliya {yoo-lee-ya} Ivan and I live in the Midwest. (Originally from Ukraine, hence the unamerican name, but that is another story.) I am a fresh-out-of-the-metaphorical-womb adult (turned 18 recently) and have a bit of free time this summer. I enjoy reading fiction novels, photography, hanging out with friends, as well as playing almost any kind of sports.

My goal for this blog is to showcase affordable, real-person fashion. There are plenty of fashion blogs out there, but they either don't show what someone would actually wear in their daily life, or each article of clothing is hundreds of dollars. This comes from the fact that I am from the Midwest, where style is secondary to comfort and practicality{ee}. (She used the name of her blog, how fun!) I will re-use a lot of pieces, because that is what people on a budget, without closets the size of the Vatican, do. I'm also gonna try to include the prices of clothes and where they are from (expect to see TJMaxx a lot).

My style, as you will hopefully see, is clean, simple, and comfortable. You will not see me in a fur jacket with leather pants and stilettos... not practical. I also don't like scarves for some reason. There are plenty of other accessorizing options. (If you're super into scarves, feel free to stop reading. Just kidding.)

I also would like to incorporate some dessert/food recipes, just because that is a part of my life, and I would love to share them with you! There might be travel ideas as well. (All on a budget!)

Comments and questions/concerns are highly encouraged! Thanks for stopping by and hope to see you again soon!
